At the end of July, our junior high and high school students embarked on an unforgettable three-day journey to Ashikaga City in Tochigi Prefecture. This was more than just a school trip—it was a chance to explore science, reflect on the beauty of creation, strengthen faith, and build lasting friendships with peers and local Japanese students.
Day 1: Blossoms, Soccer, and Reflection
Our adventure began with a warm welcome in Ashikaga. Students immediately bonded through a friendly soccer match with a local team. The game was full of energy, laughter, and cultural exchange.
Later, we wandered through the breathtaking Ashikaga Flower Park, where endless gardens in bloom reminded us of Allah’s perfection in creation. Surrounded by such beauty, students began brainstorming ideas for their upcoming assignment: “This beautiful, perfect universe must have a Creator.”
Day 2: Engineering Marvels and Summer Splash
The second day introduced us to the wonders of engineering at the Midorimachi Waterwheel, a traditional yet powerful way of transforming natural resources into energy. Students engaged in discussions about sustainability and innovation, connecting ancient techniques to modern solutions.
From learning to leisure, the day continued at the Gunma swimming pool, where students enjoyed water games and a refreshing escape from the summer heat.
Day 3: Stepping into the Future at Ashikaga University
The highlight of our journey came on the third day with a visit to Ashikaga University.
• In the architecture drafting room, students explored Japanese construction techniques and even experimented with 3D model generation.
• With Professor Yokoyama from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, they witnessed electrifying demonstrations—from lightning simulations to the power of iron nitride permanent magnets.
• At the System Information Lab, Professor Hiraishi introduced practical applications of system engineering. Students tested Bluetooth-controlled batteries and joined an accident-prevention game that turned learning into fun.
• Finally, Mrs. Miyachi from the International Student Affairs Office welcomed us warmly, offering guidance on higher education pathways for our students’ futures.
Before returning to Tokyo, we enjoyed a heartfelt family-style lunch at my home, sharing food and warm conversation in true spirit of Japanese hospitality.

More than a Trip
Beyond sightseeing and academic learning, this journey nurtured our students’ faith and leadership. They took turns leading daily prayers—including night prayers—strengthening both their spirituality and their sense of responsibility.
This Ashikaga Adventure was not just a school trip, but a blend of learning, cultural exchange, spiritual reflection, and friendship. From soccer fields to university labs, from flower gardens to family dining tables, the memories created here will remain with our students for many years to come.
