G11 Mahdi Competes in Tokyo Metropolitan Representative Selection Tournament

On June 14, 2026, IISO’s Grade 11 student Mahdi participated in the Tokyo Metropolitan Representative Selection Tournament, a major track‑and‑field event that brings together top athletes from across Tokyo. Competing in both the 1500m and 800m, he delivered strong performances that highlighted his growth, determination, and competitive spirit.

1500m — 4th Place

Mahdi’s first race of the day was the 1500m open division, where he entered with the mindset of “giving everything from start to finish.”

He began the race by settling calmly into the pack, establishing a steady rhythm. From the middle section onward, he gradually increased his pace, pushing hard in the final lap to chase the leading group. He crossed the finish line in 4th place, just outside the podium.

Although satisfied with his ability to accelerate at key moments, Mahdi reflected deeply on areas for improvement—particularly the need for more consistent practice and better rhythm control throughout the race.

800m — 7th Place

Still fatigued from the 1500m, Mahdi stepped into the 800m, a race known for its intense speed and tactical precision.

He maintained a strong position in the first half, keeping pace with the front group. However, in the final 200 meters, he narrowly fell behind and finished 7th. The race clearly revealed the challenges of balancing speed and endurance—insights that will guide his next phase of training.

The frustration of “I know I can do more” has now become fuel for his motivation.

Post‑Tournament Reflections

Through these two races, Mahdi gained valuable clarity about his current strengths and the areas he must develop:

  • He was able to respond at crucial moments in the 1500m

  • Speed limitations became clear in the 800m

  • Stamina and mental strength must improve to handle multiple events

  • He is beginning to understand race flow and strategy more deeply

Each realization will be carried forward into his next competitions.

Goals for the Upcoming Autumn Season

As Mahdi prepares for the autumn tournament, his training will focus on:

  • Enhancing speed and endurance

  • Improving the precision of final transitions

  • Stabilizing pace distribution in the 1500m

These targeted goals will help him compete at a higher level within Tokyo’s competitive athletics scene.

Message of Appreciation

Mahdi expresses his sincere gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout the tournament. He is committed to training harder and delivering results that reflect that support.

He also shared a heartfelt message:“If you come to cheer at the venue, I can push myself even harder. Please continue supporting me.”
