A Blessed Journey in Rajab: Learning Isra’ and Mi‘raj at the IISO Preschool Weekend Club

During the blessed month of Rajab, our IISO Preschool Weekend Club was filled with joy, curiosity, and meaningful Islamic learning as our young students explored one of the most remarkable events in Islamic history: Isra’ and Mi‘raj.

Discovering the Miraculous Night Journey

Across two engaging sessions, our preschoolers listened with excitement to the story of the night journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. With bright eyes and eager hearts, they followed his miraculous travel from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, riding the beautiful creature Buraq. Many children were amazed by the idea of traveling such a long distance in just one night!

The journey continued as they learned about the Prophet’s ﷺ ascension to the heavens, reaching Sidratul Muntaha, where he received the divine command of salah (prayer). The children were fascinated to discover that prayer was originally prescribed as 50 daily prayers, and through Allah’s mercy, it was reduced to five, while still carrying the reward of fifty. This became a touching lesson about Allah’s kindness, mercy, and love for His servants.

Hands‑On Activities That Bring Islamic Stories to Life

To make the learning experience joyful and memorable, our students participated in creative, hands‑on activities designed to strengthen both their understanding and their skills:

  • Pasting the golden Dome of the Rock, helping them visually connect with Masjid al-Aqsa

  • Designing their own paper sajadah (prayer mats) to nurture love for salah

  • Creating Buraq crafts by threading white wool through horse-shaped paper—an activity that quickly became a favorite and supported fine motor development

Through these activities, the children didn’t just hear the story—they experienced it, remembered it, and enjoyed it. Their Islamic knowledge grew alongside their creativity, coordination, and confidence.

Building Happy Memories Connected to Faith

The most beautiful outcome of these sessions was seeing how children realized that Islamic stories are meaningful, exciting, and full of wonder. They left with happy memories tied to their faith—something we deeply value at IISO.
